Hotels and Snorkeling Sites in Moorea

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Tahiti & French Polynesia

Hello,

Will be heading to Moorea for 5 nights and would like to ask which hotel has access to some good snorkeling right off their beach. Also would like to know if restaurants/shops/supermarkets are located close to the hotels on the island.

Are there any public buses/van running on the island?

Lastly, where are the best snorkeling sites around Moorea?

Thanks for your help!

Don't expect too much from Moorea! The island is beautiful but this is not "organized" as you expect. This is the reason why it is so beautiful.

All hotels/pensions/ campings have access to the beach.
Snorkelling is possible everywhere
No supermakert, only very few shops closed to hotel "Les tipaniers" wich is a good choice for mid-budget : http://www.lestipaniers.com/
Public transport are linked with the boats. I mean there is always to buses at the harbour for the arrival of a boat from Tahiti. You jsut need to tell them where is your hotel and they will drop you. But there are not so many buses. Hitch Hiking is very easy and safe in French Polynesia.

A school bus meets the ferry, and you can use this service to go back and forth on the island, but its service is only twice a day or so. Pao Pao also has a super market and bakery. My husband and I stayed at the Motu Iti Pension and it was about a 3 mile walk to Pao Pao and another 3 for the return. It is easy to hitch, we did it several times.
