How to get from FAA airport to the Port

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Tahiti & French Polynesia

We are arriving very early (6 a.m.).We wondered how much it would cost us to go by van or taxi to the port. Does anyone have a contact for making a transportation reservation, if advisable? We are 3 adults with probably 3 pieces of luggage. Thanks.

I guess you mean Faa'a airport? In 2006 a taxi to a hotel close to the port was for 3500 XPF (as far as I can remember). There are taxis in front of the arrival hall, no reservation necessary. It might be that it's more expensive nowadays, but don't worry, taxi drivers in Pape'ete seemed to be honest, and to bargain is not common practice.

I think it could run as high as about US$50 or 60. and remember, there is a surcharge of I think 50% from about 11 am to 7am or so, (but it may stop at 6 or 6:30am, not sure). Anyway, it's French Polynesia, so be prepared for the highest amount, and then you can only be pleasanlty surpised if it is less!

Personally I would walk across the street from the airport and take the Le Truck to the main downtown area, only a short walk, less than 1/4 mile from the get off point to the ferry terminals. Only 3 bags hopefuly on wheels should not be a problem ..........

Tiki

BTW, about 3 bucks USD each ...........

If you can walk to downtown area. We did this about the same time you arrive. It's a nice way to stretch the legs and only about 3kms.

I like the idea of a walk but what did you do with your luggage? Are there sidewalks or wide areas to walk?

4- I think it's a lot longer than 3kms from Fa'a'a airport to downtown Papeete.

we had similar arrival times. we took a bus just outside of Faa. It turned out it was a bus heading the wrong direction. we had interesting conversation with the kind driver. his route went all the way to the museum and Paa. but then he had to head back. didnt charge us a thing and learn a lot from their hospitality.
