Huahine Motu Mahare AAA+++++!!!

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Tahiti & French Polynesia

Hello guys,

I just wanna spend a bit to say Thanks to Silvanocat who made possible for us to find a wonderful place to stay in Huahine, AU MOTU MAHARE, i saw the link at ur blog.

The place is brand new and absolutely wonderful, we were the first guests ever and the two owners, Kim and Walter, are just great.

Everything is clean, perfect, they worked a lot to build up this place in a typical Tahitian way.

The two Fare (bungalows) are spacious and comfy, the common kitchen is just bigger than what we have at home!

You won't need anything else just enjoy this place:

This is the only motu in Huahine facing a big clear and whatever you can image lagoon very close to the reef; in the other side of the motu another quiet lagoon is warm and clear!

Rates are very okay, 1 or 2 persons: 6500 XFP per night wich is very good plus everything is free as the transfers and you can get the kayaks and just do your own way around the motu..

It was very pleasant stay, we were very excited to do some islands and Bora Bora was our GOAL, but sincerely we really changed our minds after all.

I don't know if this is the right place to put this thread so sorry for this.

Thanks again ope to be helpful to anyone who wants to go in Huahine.

How wonderful to hear! I'm glad that it turned out as great as it sounded. (I wrote about the place opening but I haven't been there myself. It just sounded great.)

I decided for my upcoming trip (where I have more time than usual) to venture out and visit the Samoas and Tonga. So now there is a bit of oh! no! I should have booked Tahiti where I know I'd be able to enjoy safe, beautiful waters with the freedom to explore.

May I post your review on my blog?

Hello Alimo,

Thank you for your post. This place sounds incredible and I am really interested by it. I just have one question for you: How/where do you purchase groceries and bring them over to the motu?

Thanks in advance,

Eveline

My husband and I just returned from a trip to French Polynesia. Staying at Au Motu Mahare on Huahine was a definite high point! Kim and Walter were fabulous hosts. Walter took us to purchase groceries at the well-equipped market in Fare before we headed out to the Motu. After a short boat ride across the gorgeous lagoon we landed in paradise. Two lovingly crafted fares (cabins) with a wonderful common kitchen and a separate covered dining area. The toilets were fabulous with hand-carved wooden sinks and refreshing showers! And the location could not be beat if you want a relaxing, snorkeling- and kayaking- filled holiday. The lagoon was like a private aquarium! We even were able to bike around the island. Huahine is one of our all-time top destinations.

For the money, Au Motu Mahare was amazing. Would recommend this place to any of our friends. Remember mosquito repellent (as is needed everywhere we went in F.P.) and prepare to enjoy your stay!

Thanks for the tip Alimo!

I would probably never have known about this place if it weren't for this blog posting. I am now booked for March 2010 for 3 nights at Au Motu Mahare. My husband and I will be travelling to French Polynesia for 2 weeks and my whole itinerary revolved around being able to stay here. While it is not the lodging of choice for people who want a "pampering" vacation it is exactly what we were looking for-snorkeling,kayaking,cooking on our own and a bit more rustic. I cannot believe the price was so reasonable-just under $100 (us) per night. Where else can you stay on a private motu, have it almost to yourself, surrounded by such a beautiful setting, for that price? I will write a trip report upon our return. I am sure this will be a highlight of our trip!! Thank you so much for telling your "secret"!!!!
