Huahine: stay in north or south?

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Tahiti & French Polynesia

Hello all,

I (and my soon-to-be wife) plan to spend 5 nights on Huahine, in between stays at Moorea and Bora Bora. As far as we can see, the choices revolve around:
a) Stay near Fare (e.g. Fare Ie) which would put us "near the action", or
b) Stay in Huahine Iti (e.g. Pension Mauarii) which is more isolated, but better accommodation

Does anyone have any recommendations? We will be staying in resorts on Moorea and Bora Bora, so we want to sample a bit more of the real thing on Huahine, which is why we were considering staying near Fare. Thing is, without knowing what's there, it's a pretty hard choice to make!

Hi there!

I just recently returned from Tahiti and stayed on Huahine at the Te Tiare which is the nicest hotel on the island. This hotel is only accessible by boat and it's just a short ten minute ride to Fare. It is a four star property, the rooms are nice and are currently receiving alittle sprucing up. The beach bar was being completely redone when I was there at the end of November...

The Pension Mauarii is more isolated but the restaurant is fantastic and looks like something out of 1963......Don Ho singing ha! It's really great and quite authentic. The beach there is beautiful as well. The bungalows are basic for the most part and I don't think they spray for bugs there. They have an activities desk and car rental as well. It's about a 15-20 minute ride by car to Fare as I recall. I have tons of photos of Huahine and these resort properties. Here's the link to my personal photos and my reviews. Have a wonderful trip! I hope my photos are helpful to you. I have a Bora Bora site too, where are you staying?
