Marquesas

We are thinking of visiting the Marquesas next December and wondered if we could rent bicycles on the various islands to ride around. Also, what are the must see(or favorite) places and or activities? It is my understanding that snorkling is not good due to no reefs.

I haven´t seen any bikerental anywhere in the Marquesas, "free" tourists without a Cruiseship are not too usual in the Marquesas. But may be you will find somebody who will rent his personal bike to you for a fee. If, expect these bikes as small and not effective. If you want to use useful bikes there you have to bring them with you (for example by the Aranui) and you can leave them there, the Islanders will thank you.

Another answer to one of your questions: You´re right, snorkeling is not too good in most of the Marquesas. But if you come to the bay of Anaho close to Hatiheu on Nuku Hiva there is a small reef an this place is really perfect for snorkeling!
