Moorea Family Homestays and Dorms

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Tahiti & French Polynesia

I am stopping over in Tahiti and travelling to Moorea for four days in late Jan. Acknowledge this is little time but want to max time on the beach. Arrive at 0600 so want to hit the beaches by late morning - fly out late (2200) on the fourth day.

I have seen a couple of discussions about campsites and dorms (Camping Nelson and Marks Place) but also have seen alot of names of other family homestays - Unsurprisingly these generally have no websites and its difficult to guage their prices.

Can anyone recommend any budget homestays on Moorea or am I best to stay at the Marks or Nelsons.

Additionally, are these family home stays significantly cheaper than Marks/Nelsons - i.e. is it worth the hassle?

I'm interested in doing a dive or two and also some surfing.

Obviously somewhere that will allow me to trip back to the ferry for Papeete easily is also

Cheers in advance...

I can't make specific recommendations, but try the following site, its worked well for me all over FP

You might try Moorea Camping, which has both dormitory rooms and small bungalows, on a nice sandy white beach with easy access to shops and restaurants. Mark's Place is a little out of the way and you would need a bike or car to get around; also, it is located on the mountain side, and not directly on the beach.

You can email Moorea Camping at einui@hotmail.com. Hope this helps!
