| cairny02:44 UTC19 Feb 2007 | Hi My fiancee and I planned a honymoon to French polynesia, (Maupiti, Bora Bora, and Tikehau,) but because we are currently applying for a green card we might have to stick to an American honymoon. With that in mind we thought Hawaii might be the next best thing. I don't know anything about the state, but I was wondering if anyone could give us some suggestions about where to stay, islands or accommodation. Basically what appeals to us is gorgeous beaches, nice water, the option for snorkeling and scuba and privacy, we don't mind small resorts as long as they are private and have big empty beaches for nighttime walks. Any suggestions would be very much appreciated.

But I can't think of anywhere in Hawaii that really matches Bora Bora or the other smaller islands in Fr. Polynesia. Hawaii has many times the number of tourists than the places you mentioned. Big empty beaches in Hawaii??? Maybe a remote area near Hana (Maui), or SW end of Kauai. Or a remote part of Molokai or the Big Island. But most places in Hawaii dwarf Fr. Polynesia in tourists by quite a lot.

Its quite lovely and much closer to FP than anywhere else in Hawaii. The beach on the west end is the longest in Hawaii and unlike what Raro says, has always been all but deserted. I think the most people I ever saw there at one time weas about 10 and the thing is 3.5 miles (a bit over 5km) long! It is NOT usually a great swimming beach, but good for surfing. The lagoons can be great for snorkelling if it hasn't been raining much.
