My first trip to French PolCountry forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Tahiti & French Polynesia
Hello everyone, Where to stay in Tahiti, Bora Bora Are there "Bed and Breakfast" type accommodations in these places. What is the best way to travel. I am really new at this on line chatting can someone assist me with Info. Looking forward to reading your responses. Cheers for now, Owen
If you have only a short stopover Moorea would be your best choice. There are several ferry (about 30 minutes)crossings during the day and a number of budget type places to stay on the island. Have a look at mooreaisland.com for more information. To get to Bora Bora you will probably have to fly - there used to be a boat connection but it comes and goes. The website I gave you will also give you information about accommodation on BB. I would also suggest you try the forums at tahiti-explorer.com for more up to date information. | 1
Thank you for your reply. we are still trying to sort everything out. What would be the best way to fly-stay in these areas? Looking forward to hearing from you soon. Cheers for now, Owen McBride | 2
Our last trip to the South Pacific was in 2006 so my information may be out dated. What I would suggest is to do as much research as you can - decide what it is that you most want to do when visiting the islands. I started by borrowing books from the library on the places I wanted to visit - or went to the book stores and read information from the books not available in the library. The various forums are great sources of information - you will get more answers on Fiji here than you will on Tahiti so have a look at tripadvisor.com - a lot of honeymooners on there but a good place to research accommodations, just realize the reviews may be biased so don't believe everything you read. Once you have done some reading come back and ask specific questions. With regard to flying within Tahiti check out the Air Tahiti website. You can check out routes and prices - be careful with the schedule as some routes are not daily. With a week you could opt to visit two islands - have a look at Huahine if you would like to see a less touristy area. As for staying - decide what kind of accommodation you are interested in - do you need A/C? - a kitchenette(good choice for saving money), on a beach, over-the-water,etc. For most places you can find them online and book directly but some of the budget places may not be online - these you will need to call. FP is expensive on the whole but can be done on a budget with some planning. As for Fiji the same applies - with a friend there you can probably get better information than I can provide. Hopefully this will get you started - You can PM me if you need more information. | 3
Thank you, you've been a great help. Have you had any dealings with TahitiTravel personally? Have you booked with them? Sent them any money, etc.etc.? Owen | 4
I have not used TahitiTravel but they have been around a long time - you could post your question on tripadvisor in the SP forum - with so many honeymooners on there I would think a few of them have used their services. I usually do all my bookings myself - I have never had a problem with having to remit money for deposits to the various services I have used. I always research and check out as much as I can to be sure I am dealing with reputable people - again, asking questions on the various forums will help you with your decisions. | 5
I think you are best to stay on Moorea too......flying up to Bora Bora can be quite an expense although there are a few BnB places there....Pensions.....best at Matira point area which has a nice beach area. On Moorea there are some cheaper type hotels too. with a few little restaurants and stores dotted around the island. | 6
