New Affordable Pension on Moorea - Fare Moorea Miti

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Tahiti & French Polynesia

Until it closed in October 2005, we were regular and repeat guests at Moorea Village, and loved the spacious and airy kitchen bungalows, beautiful long white sand beach, and true Tahitian ambience of that property.

On our return for three weeks to Moorea in late March, we were pleasantly surprised to discover that a portion of the Moorea Village property -- the ten kitchen bungalows on the north side of the property -- have now been opened as a small pension by new owners, a young and very pleasant French couple named Joel and Severine, under the property name of Pension Fare Moorea Miti.

We stayed for one night during our 3-week recent trip to Moorea, and we will definitely return for a longer visit this summer. Our beachfront kitchen bungalow was located on a long white sand beach on a turquoise lagoon, with gorgeous sunset views. The bungalow has been renovated and is equipped with kitchen equipment, including new pots and pans, dishes, glasses, and utensils adequate for a family of four. A small refrigerator and a 2-burner electric stove is provided. No coffee maker or hot pot was available in the kitchen when we visited, but the new owners intend to include them in the bungalows soon. The spacious living area contains two day beds, while the separate bedroom has a queen-size comfortable bed, beautifully decorated with a Tahitian quilt. The large veranda, covered with an authentic pandamus-leaf roof, faces the beach and has a large table and chairs for sitting and dining. The hot-water bathroom has a shower with great water pressure. A movable floor fan is provided, and this was adequate for us even in March-April, during hot muggy weather, because the bungalows are well cross-ventilated and positioned to receive the sea breezes. The owners plan to install WiFi internet access in the very near future.

The grounds on this property have been impeccably groomed, with flowering shrubs blooming everywhere. The location is convenient to restaurants and shops at Petit Village, a 10 minute walk, and a small grocery store is only a 5 minute walk away. The beach continues north for quite a way, past the Old Club Med property, and is quiet and beautiful.

Even the garden bungalows have beautiful views of the sea from the wide veranda/terrace. There is no longer a restaurant or pool on this property, as it is located on just a small portion of the former Moorea Village property. It is also a true "pension," in that you must supply your own necessities -- soap, shampoo, towels, etc. -- and no daily housekeeping is provided, although clean and new sheets and bed coverings and pillow are provided on arrival (and a broom is included). But the lack of other amenities is reflected in a VERY affordable room rate -- about $130 a night for the one beach bungalow or $110 a night for the garden bungalows, with discounts given for stays longer than two weeks.

Because this is a new (but flourishing) venture, the owners have not yet set up a website or email access, which will become available in the near future. No credit cards are accepted yet, so payment must be in cash (XPF). Please contact me at BarbiJKM@aol.com for further contact information if you are interested, because I don't want to post the private email address here yet until the owners have established their business address online. (When they do, I will post it, as well as their website URL when it is up.)

We will definitely be returning to this lovely location, which provides a lovely yet affordable to resort living on Moorea! I hope all you former fans of Moorea Village will be as happy as we were to see this beautiful place starting to be rejuvenated.

I just found out the contact information is now listed online by the Moorea guesthouse and pension directory (Haere-mai), so I can now include it here.
