Pls review this 12-day Tahiti Islands Itinerary

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Tahiti & French Polynesia

Sorry if this question was posted 1000 times. Have 12 days to visit Polynesia in Sept 07 [honeymoon, no special money problems]. Here's my itinerary:

Tahiti (4 days probably at Sofitel) > Maupiti > Rangiroa > Tahaa? > Bora Bora (2 days probably at Sofitel again luxury ending)

So there are 6 days for the islands, I'm not sure which order, where to stay, where to go, how to get there... Combination of "luxury" with "real thing" is wht we are looking for :)

Incidentally, I assume buying pot is not a good idea in Polynesia? What about kava?

We are 40 sths, so we don't want any kind of trouble, many thanks for any good ideas you may have!

Two days per island is way too rushed and you might run into schedule problems.

Your itinerary doesn't work flightwise. Since you can only fly to/from Maupiti to Raiatea and Tahiti I would suggest Tahiti/Rangiroa/Bora Bora/Raiatea(for Tahaa)/Maupiti/Tahiti or visa versa. Take a look at the Air Tahiti web site for more info.

Haven't heard of anyone drinking kava in French Polynesia. Around 30 Air Tahiti Nui flight attendants were just suspended for importing grass, coke and ecstasy from LA. Resale was reported to be up to 15 times the original purchase price (and I thought that they just went to Costco when they stopped here).

:) ok I'll be definetly straight in Polynesia

So you recommend Rangiroa?

I actually do not recommend Rangiroa (I was just going by what you listed as the places that you wanted to visit). There's way too much litter there. It's not a beautiful place. However, on your schedule with only one full day there you could pre-arrange to go on a tour to the Blue Lagoon which is on the other side of the atoll and one of the most beautiful places that I've ever been. Otherwise I would suggest Tikehau which has direct flights to Bora Bora a couple of times a week. The Pearl resort there is in a stunning location (the best location of all the accomodations) and the main island is pretty and clean. It also gives you more of an atoll experience than Rangiroa which is much busier.

I'm would consider visiting Moorea, folks generally just overnight in the Papeete area (where the Sofitel is) before heading to an outer island. Tahiti Iti, which I have not visited, is supposed to be very beautiful too.

I would suggest looking at the Tahiti explorer forum Many honeymooners post there. It seems like a higher budget crowd than this forum too.
