| cosmic_explorer14:32 UTC23 Feb 2007 | Anyone knows if there are any restrictions for those having EU passports in regards to stay long term in Fr. Polynesia?
Maximum 90 days to be extended by authorities? Is it required a return ticket at entrance?
Thanks for replying!

| colinp03:28 UTC26 Feb 2007 | I don't know what the rules are. I only stayed for a few days, but when I entered on a UK passport in 2005 I literally walked in. No visa, no stamp, no questions -- nothing. I got the impression that this was part of France and the same rules applied.

| colinp05:26 UTC27 Feb 2007 | There's no info for Thorn Tree World passport holders so I've made an assumption that you're German.
This info is from the QANTAS website.
National GERMANY (DE) Embarkation GERMANY (DE) Destination FRENCH POLYNESIA (PF)
Visa not required if holding: - valid documents and ticket for onward destination
(if travelling on special rate air fares confirmed onward ticket required); and - sufficient funds.
FRENCH POLYNESIA (PF)
Passport (must be valid 3 months after entry) required. Also accepted: Kinderausweis (Identity document issued to
minors), provided travelling together with parent(s).
Visa not required for a max. stay of 3 months. Extension of stay is possible after arrival.
Non-compliance with the entry requirements results in fines up to EUR 7,621.- (or equivalent in XPF 900,000.-).

Quote
Maximum 90 days to be extended by authorities? Is it required a return ticket at entrance?

It seems from the above that both your assumptions are correct.

Btw, someone has been there and know some 'affordable' ways of staying, i.e. rental apts, condos etc?

http://tahitionabudget.blogspot.com

If you are staying in one place for more than 30 days, you can often negotiate a monthly rate that is significantly cheaper than the daily or weekly rates. Hope this helps!

P.S. About the visa extension...
It is no longer an easy task to get your stay extended in Tahiti beyond the non-visa limit (for EU residents, 3 months; for Americans 30 days). I would suggest that you contact your closest French Consulate and inquire about the long-stay visa for a visit of more than three months, and do the paperwork and get it affixed to your passport before you arrive in FP. Most of the information you need can be found online, including the application form and a list of what documents they need from you to issue a visa for beyond 3 months (bank statements, employment pay stubs, proof of medical insurance, etc.). I would not go, planning to stay beyond three months, without this visa in your passport! In the old days (before 911) it was much easier to get an extension in Papeete government offices, but now they are very strict and you may run into difficulties. Better safe than sorry -- they can easily send you home on the 91st day!

| cosmic_explorer12:35 UTC15 Apr 2007 | Well, ty for that update Barbi. Will check it out.
I plan to get there at earliest wintertime '08. I'm a EU passport holder, but I understand that some of the french OT's, like PF, do have a totally different visa policy in contrast to the french mainland. In island nation cases you may jump between them at visa expiration date and thus renew it. Not easy on this one tho! As far as I know Martinique and Guadalope in the carribeans are easy to stay on, but I want to go to PF to stay long time! Saw a program on Hallmark channel from there the other day, me and my wife were STUNNED by the beauty! So, I'll work for it...
Cheers!
