Hi,
We are planning on doing a bareboat charter in Tahiti in March/April 2011. We'll have 8 days, and will be primarily in the Bora Bora/Raiatea/Huahine group.
I'm wondering if anyone has any recommendations (or warnings!) for not-to-miss snorkelling, day-sails/moorings/lagoons, beaches and land activities (hiking, horses, other sites to see). We'll be sleeping and taking most of our meals on the boat, but will definitely want to dine out once or twice.
Any thoughts are much appreciated!
Cheers!

I don't know anything about boat chartering but I have been to the 3 islands you mention and can recommend the following:- Huahine -We stayed near Fare and found the snorkeling to be very good just offshore - there is an area near the then closed(don't know it's status at the moment) Sofitel Hotel that was quite nice and we enjoyed snorkeling off the dock at the Relais Mahana. For eating out we liked the New Tamara in Fare and also enjoyed the roulottes on the dock there. For sightseeing you could check out the marae in Maeva or the blue eyed eels(can't remember where they were located but was on the main road around the island). Raiatea - The only snorkeling we did there was in front of our accommodation at Sunset Beach. We had a nice meal at the Seahorse in Utora. We really liked the drive around the island - it has some spectacular scenery. We did a tour of the Faaroa River and the Marae Tapatapatea (great restoration). We also hiked up Mt. Tapoi for some great views. Bora Bora - The only snorkeling we got to do here(poor weather hampered our efforts) was on a shark/ray tour with Ranui Tours - absolutely great out near the reef! Can't recommend any places to eat as we were disappointed with our choices. We also did a short, steep hike up the hill across from the Club Med which gave us great views of the lagoon -the colors are unforgetable! We were there in 06 so some of this information may no longer be applicable as places come and go and the spellings may be off! You might want to post your questions on tripadvisor or tahiti-explorer as well. Have a great trip - wish I could be going again!
