Surf spot?

Hello...we are going to Tahiti next year as part of a cruise
Is the somewhere near the cruise port where my husband could hire a board and have a surf?
Any idea of how much a board would cost to rent?

I think the big surfing area is at the other end of the island....not sure about near town. Paddling racing canoes is the big thing in town.
