Tahiti-bora bora-moorea!?!?

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Tahiti & French Polynesia

Hi,

I am heading to tahiti on the 18th sept-arrive on tuesday night in PPT.i have until the 2nd of oct!
i have been reading as many posts---i want to spend all my time on moorea+bora bora.and it seems i will get the ferry to moorea for a few nights depending on the cargo ship times to bora bora!
Just wanted to ask is it correct that cargo ship only goes 1 day a week?this may mean i have too many days on moorea and in ur opinion would it be better arriving at PPT and booking the cheapest flight to bora bora at the airport and plan my moorea trip around this?i no its around 300us(but i heard something about blue flights?)
i would be forgetting about the cargo ship to bora bora with this option!

i appreciate any advice,

cheers RR

According to the schedule posted on the Tahiti Tourisme Web site there are cargo boats running 5 days a week. (Note: the high speed ferry is no longer running.). Some days there is limited space as deck class is not available on all voyages. I would email them and double check the schedule. As the cargo ships depart 4 - 5 pm you are losing a day of your vacation just waiting to get on one.

On my blog I write about blue fares here. You don't need an airpass to realize savings. Buying your ticket in FP will yield a substantial savings. I write about that here.

But you won't save a lot of money, and may well be delayed a lot. Boat is the way to go if it works, but schedules change a LOT in this part of the world. The airline is far more reliable that way.

The Aremiti Corsaire is NOT operating (the last company on the list). Do email both the Vaenu and Hawaiki Nui to double check the schedule.

i have emailed both sil il see what they have to say.

# 3 u dont think il save a lot??
i have been told the cargo ship is $80 pp per return whereas the flight is $300 pp per return??

Yep, and you spend days on a boat. Depends what your time is worth. Personally I would have to say I'd probably enjoy it, then again I'm one of those people who like everything. Totally indiscriminating! But most people riding a ship like this would be bored stiff.

Sounds like you are planning on spending more time on Bora Bora than on Moorea. I'd do the opposite, BOB can get boring in a few days unless you are in the lagoon all the time. Lot more to see and do on Moorea.

JUST AN UPDATE

went to bora bora in sept 07. we got the boat that leaves thaiti every mon , wed, fri . I think it leaves at 4 r 5pm and arrives BB at around 7/8am. We paid around 60euro each way i think, but on the way over we had the 2nd floor, way back botttom floor which is near the engine, very noisy. u need to book it at least a day r 2 before hand to be sure. Its a small office about a 25-30min walk from where the boats leave dailt to moorea, the office is further along the shore(going away from the direction of the airport).irs easy doable and cheap.no food r water on board.not the cleanest but we made the most of it. Bora Bora wasnt as good as moorea and 2.5days i was over BB !!
