Has anyone been to Tahiti Iti? My husband is a mad-keen surfer and I have seen Teahupoo on TV many times - it looks beautiful and apparently you can stay with local families in accommodation that's set up for surfers. Has anyone done this? Just want to know about any family friendly (we have two young sons) budget accommodation options. My thanks for your help,

I stopped there on an around the island drive, but I haven't stayed there. It is a very quaint and charming place for a mid-day stop. I think Silvano and some other TT'ers can give you more info, one or more has stayed there. There are some Tahiti websites listed on the FAQ at the beginning of this branch. Also, check out Tripadvisor, may be something there.

Sorry, haven't been to Iti but I know two of the other regulars here have. Hopefully they'll turn up. I believe that Ed stayed at Pension Bonjouir. Do look at the sites I've mentioned in the FAQ (you'll find the FAQ if you don't specify a country but view the whole Pacific Islands branch, it's the sticky at the top).

We stayed at Teahupoo for a bit over a week last May and absolutely loved it. I can't really help you with budget accommodation, as we stayed with friends for the majority of the time, but we did splurge on 2 nights at Vanira Lodge. It cost us about 16000 fpf and was beautifully different. A rental car is handy if you are going to stay at Teahupoo - the surf is often either small or crowded at Chopes, but there are lots of other possibilities within a 30 min drive.

Hi I have stayed at both P.Bonjouir and Vanira lodge. If you have a rental car definately stay at Vanira. I've heard bad reviews of Bojouir, the guides were great the woman who owned it was not so friendly as we were self catering. I didn't think their meals looked worth the price. But they were much cheaper for the boat ride. Our last trip we stayed at Vanira. They quoted a much more expensive boat rate. The boys just paddled out. We didn't rent a car, the walk back up the hill was very steep.

Oh and Vanira was good for little kids, the owners have a young one. They had a swing set and small pool. Lots of room to run around. My kids were teens, they thought it was a great place too. Especially since they could go to the store and buy beer!
