| kiwi7505:17 UTC01 Feb 2007 | Hello again Just wondering if there's anyone out there who is familiar with accomodation on Tikehau?
My bank balance isn't interested in staying at the resort however we are looking for somewhere comfortable near amenities and some decent food (and I may do a dive). I have had a bit of a look online however there were very few photos and limited info.
Thanks if anyone can impart their wisdom! Cheers

| silvanocat08:36 UTC01 Feb 2007 | The amentities available in Tikehau are a post office, two small groceries, a bakery and a snack restaurant that's open Sunday - Friday for lunch and dinner (and at least one dive operator, the Raie Manta Club). There are about 8 pensions offering room and board.
I stayed at Kahaia Beach which is the only pension on its own motu, to get to the village one has to kayak across the channel and then bike to town. I loved it, I was the only guest 5 out of 7 days there. The food was very good, I had half board. It probably isn't a good choice for you as there is an element of roughing it there. It's buggy (I would advise anyone staying there to splurge on the 1500 xpf mozzie spray at the magasin and spray all around ones fare as well as arond the dinner table), there is no cold water, no screens but a mosquito net and the accomodations are very modest. There also is only one kayak and bicycle available which was perfect for just me. The owners speak very little English, I speak even less French but that worked out fine.
Anyway, the best bet for you would be a pension close to town (as opposed to by the airport). I've heard nothing but great reports about Aito Motel Colette. I believe that they also have cold water only.
Here's a map of the main motu.

| kiwi7508:54 UTC01 Feb 2007 | Hey Silvanocat Thanks again for your help, the likes of yourself make forums like this sooo helpful. Big ups! I'll look into both of your suggestions. Kahaia Beach does sound great - as long as the kayak is generally available, although I have pretty sour blood I sure won't forget repellant! Cheers

| silvanocat09:03 UTC01 Feb 2007 | Since you're interested I'll put up some photos and more info on Kahaia Beach on my blog early next week. This is practically the only information that I had prior to my trip (click on the link for Tikehau).

| shully05:53 UTC06 Feb 2007 | The nicest place is the Pearl Resort. Didn't get your budget so I'm just going to the top! Beautiful pink sand in Tikehau, great snorkeling and a very quiet place....beautiful.
sunny regards, shully

| globality18:50 UTC25 Mar 2007 | Pension alliotto collette was very nice, with fares right on the pink sand beach, they are located next to the Manta dive center. The price was 65 euro per person with breakast and dinner (excellent fresh fish ask them to make the sashimi the best I ever had). THe owner is a character and he and his wife will sing during dinner and they are quite good. We went snorkeling in the pass and loved it. The manta club will take you to see the manat rays that are so graceful as they swimm around you (It was like an underwater ballet) The snorkeling was 30 euros each but they need some divers to make it worth their while.
Peace
