travelling with kids

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Tahiti & French Polynesia

My husband and I are seasoned travellers and actually so are David(2,5years)and Idun(7 months).
Travelling slows down a little, so we are looking for the perfect slow family holiday and we are thinking about two weeks early December, flying from LA or SF, as we are seeing my Husband´s family for Christmas there.
We would love any suggestions, pensions, activities that you think could add to great family travel.
Where should we fly to and where to stay?I speak french and we don´t like it too expensive and fancy.
The kids need a base and we need some activities, not many tourists, locals and options of doing stuff during the day to return to preferably a friendly smaller family run place.
How hot is is then and how does it feel (humidity)?
Thanks for any help with our planning;)

No specifics, but I'd focus on one of the smaller family-run places on Moorea.

I can recommend Rande's Shack(an ex pat American married to a Tahitian) on Huahine. He has a 2 bedroom house (also a 1 bedroom) that he rents out. It is about 15 minutes walk to Fare(he also has complimentary bikes) where you can shop for groceries or eat out. The property is on the ocean(no real beach) with great snorkeling just offshore. There is a nice beach(Fare Beach) about 10 minutes walk along the shore. There are a number of tours and activities you can avail off. Renting a car for a day to drive around the island is also recommended. There is a great beach at the closed Sofitel(may now be opened again) with good snorkeling. We found Huahine to be the least touristy of the 5 islands we visited and really enjoyed the warm, homey feeling we got there. We were there in August so can't comment on what the weather is like in December. Hope this helps. PM me if you want more information.
