two week adventure - advice needed!Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Tahiti & French Polynesia
Dear fellow travelers and locals, Should we spend more time in Bora Bora and maybe scrap Fakarava?
It has been a few years since I was in Tahiti and I am not up on the latest with regards to the ferries. I know when I was working on my schedule the ferries were unreliable with the exception of the Moorea one. You will also have to look at scheduling as the ferries may not run daily and, if I recall, even some of the flights were not daily. I would suggest that you check out the forum at www.tahiti-explorer.com - the posters there are usually up on the latest with regard to the ferries and will be able to help you with your plans. You could also have a look at the Tahiti forum on tripadvisor - a lot of honeymooners get great information there. We did 5 islands(Huahine, Raiatea,Bora Bora, Moorea and Tahiti) in a 2 week period and found that we wasted more time than we thought in the airport and being transported to our accommodation. In hindsight, we should have dropped one and just concentrated on 4. If you are divers(we only snorkel) getting to Rangiroa and Fakarava would be worth it! Good luck with your plans and have a great trip - FP is a special place worth the effort to get there! | 1
Yes....I was going to say the same as Newfie.....ferry schedules are not written in stone. The ferry from Bora Bora to Maupiti was running every other day several months ago but if it was a public holiday or something it does not run. Actually, for any trip to the Pacific Islands it is good to expect some upsets to travel plans and to be ready with a plan B or C. | 2
If I were you I would look at trying to have less flights and connections. Things don't run like clockwork in the South Pacific and often you need to be flexible. I agree with the previous responses that you should have a back up plan in case of delays and perhaps have longer stays at fewer locations. I have always found I enjoy a holiday more if I spend at least 4 days in one place. Any less than that and you spend your whole trip packing and unpacking and at airports. | 3
