I'm would like to go to Bora Bora between February - March for my honey moon, but I don't know if the rainy season is permanent during those months and if is recommendable go to the island during that season, keeping in mind that is when I could go. I appreciate any advice
The wet season in French Polynesia runs from November to April and the wettest months in Bora Bora are December and January. There is also a small risk of tropical storms affecting Bora Bora between November and April. However it does not rain all the time. Even in December and January the sun shines for at least half the day on average, and by March this has risen to over 60% of daylight hours with 8 hours of sunshine a day (again on average). But you must be warned that if a low pressure system moves over the island when you are there there is a chance that it can be cloudy with rain at times for a day or two. So based on these figures the later you go in March the greater the chances of your having good weather. For your information the tourist high season and the time when most people visit Bora Bora is during the drier months from the beginning of May to the end of October. One Suggestion: The weather in the Maldives is magnificent in February and March..... this would be our suggestion for the desert island destination with the best weather at that time of year. All the best. | 1
Hi, Thank you for your advice. Considering your opinion, what destination is more affordable (Bora Bora or Maldives) and what of those destinatios are better to visit another place on the route? Thanks | 2
Unfortunately both French Polynesia and the Maldives are expensive destinations. So whichever one you visit will not be cheap. It also depends on where you are travelling from. The Maldives can be reached by direct flights from the UK and Germany, while getting to Bora Bora will involve a number of changes even if you live in South America. There are no other countries anywhere near French Polynesia whereas Sri Lanka is only a short hop from the Maldives. Sri Lanka is a beautiful country with lots of different things to do and see. It has great hotels, the people are very friendly and it is also not as expensive as Bora Bora or the Maldives. The best time to visit south-west Sri Lanka is during January and February. | 3
How many days (minimum) do you recomend to stay in Maldives? | 4
There is not a lot to do in the Maldives unless you are a diver. Also there is little or no interaction between the tourist islands, so you will probably spend the whole time in one place. However you say it is your honeymoon so this sounds appropriate, and the Maldives is a very beautiful place for such a special occasion. The sea is crystal clear, the sand beautifully white and at night you can gaze on some of the starriest skies you may ever see. You may feel you have missed something if you don't stay at least 5-7 days. Most people visit for one or two weeks. The Maldives Tourism Board has a good website for information. Reading your profile, I see that your favorite place is Italy. Have you ever been in Tuscany region (On my way to Maldives)? I would like to spend a couple days in a farm villa, do you have any suggesttion? Tks | 6
I can't recommend a specific property. Usually these bookings are best handled by an agent in your home country. Since I don't know which country you are based in I suggest you google farms & villas in Tuscany to find a company. The only one I know that operates throughout Europe (assuming you are in Europe) is Belvilla. [http://www.belvilla.com] I will also say that February and March are not the best times to go to Tuscany. It is likely to be quite cloudy and rather cold. | 7
