Whale watching on Tahiti or MooreaCountry forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Tahiti & French Polynesia
Hello all! I am travelling to French Polynesia at the end of September and I need some advise. I will have a bit more than a week, which I would like to split up between the islands of Tahiti and Moorea and I would definitely like to go on a whale watching trip. Which ones of the two islands is better for whale watching? Can anyone recommend a tour operator? And do I have to book in advance or can I spontaneously arrange the whale watching while there? Thank you in advance!
Hey there! French Polynesia is not a good place to watch whales, but it is instead a great one where to swim with huge manta rays and reef sharks. I wrote this post some time ago which has some tips on what to expect and how to save money visiting French Polynesia , it might help? | 1
Hi there. We have been to Moorea in October (15 years ago) and we´ve daily seen humpbacks and lots of spinnerdolphins right from our bungalow which was located on the eastcoast just a few ks north from the airport. The humpbacks were travelling close to the horizont and only a few were jumping. But I think, Moorea (not Tahiti) as well is worth for some whlae watching. We didn´t do a trip that time for we did swim with the humpback two weeks before on Rurutu. But I know that there was a zoologist Dr ??? doing some well recommended trips from Moorea. | 2
