What can I do in Papeete for 5 hours?Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Tahiti & French Polynesia
I know that is not a lot of time, but I am in layover for 4 hours in t. Is there something awesome I can see while there for my short amount of time? I was just thinking of going to that famous market.
Just don't go to the market if you're there on a Sunday, it is a ghost town. Samara | 1
You could, it's right downtown. Take a wander through Papeete. Nothing to write home about though. (Except for the French pastries which are exceptional.) You could also head over to the Sofitel, close to the airport. Order a pricey lunch and enjoy the beach and views of Moorea. http://www.sofitel.com/gb/hotel-0547-sofitel-tahiti-maeva-beach-resort/index.shtml | 2
so, i had the same time just yesterday.....take the bus on the street in front of the tahiti motel for 130 cfp or a taxi for 2000 cfp during the day and 2500 cfp if it's night. go downtown papeete (about 10/15 mins) and if it's before 5 p.m. visit the market for the last souvenirs. have an artigianal beer at the 3 brasserie at the peer jus to the other side of the street where the the big cruising yachts are. After your beer (but you can also eat very good there) just cross the street and find (after 6 p.m.) the famous tahitian roulottes for the food. The food is awesome and the portions are extra large and cheap!!!!! Then take a taxi and......bon voyage!!!! | 3
you can rent a car and drive around the island it takes about 2.5 hours if you don't make too many stops. | 4
