WHAT WOULD YOU DO?????

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Tahiti & French Polynesia

hello, I am in the very beginning stages of planning a trip to tahiti. I would like to visit Moorea on my trip. I would like to know when the very best time of the year to travel is??? (im a pilot and fly standby, so busy season is usualy very hard) also where would you stay if you were on a budget? and what would you recommend doing??? Thank you so much for your time! If you could include any known prices that would be very much appreciated!!!

Thanks!!!

The low season is now. It s also the hot and rainy season but it's fair ok . In Moorea there is very nice budget place called " Camping Nelson" that offers : small bungalows or very small rooms to share, or just a place for your tent.
It's clean and there is a large kitchen to share. This is a great place closed to shop, and easy to reach.
The beach in front of the rooms is incredible, just few meters from your bed.

best time is the high season (may-sept). if you are flying as standby your best bet would be may and sept., these are still awesome. even in the high season, rain is still there but as showers for few hrs, then clears and becomes sunny again.

for activities, diving, snorkeling, biking around the islands, watching their trad ukelele/dances, taking a trip to smaller motus, or doing nothing!

i think its best to go to these places with your special someone, or even a friend.

You will find all Hotels and B&Bs in tahititourisme site. French Polynesia is expensive, but there are some lowerpriced accomodations.

Dont forget Borabora, the most beautiful island.

Enjoy the wonderful and friendly people of Polynesia.

Once you find a few places you are interested in, let them know you are a pilot. Then ask if they have a "travel industry rate". Lots of places in Fr. Polynesia (and the SP in general) offer up to 50% off for people in the industry, as they know they meet a lot of people who travel, and word of mouth will help their business. But you usually have to arrange this in advance.
