Which islands with accessible beaches?

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Tahiti & French Polynesia

I am planning a trip to French Polynesia for one month in December. I would like to stay on islands where it's possible to get around by bycicle or motorbike and find accessible beaches without necessarily going on a different motu every day. My budget is limited and I don't like too touristy spots. Any suggestions?
Thank you for every advice.

I can suggest Huahine - there is a hostel style accommodation(Chez Guynette I believe) in Fare or check out Rande's Shack, a one bedroom house about 10 minutes walk to Fare. He also had complimentary bikes. There are a number of beaches around the island including one near Fare. I would spend a month there anytime - not too touristy - a lovely warm feeling to the place!

Thank you. I have already considered Huahine. I would like to visit also other islands in the Tuamotu archipelago.

Consider finding a place to stay on Tahiti Iti...near Teahupoo. Nice lightly used paved road. Small beaches and a few stores for bread veggies etc within a few Km. It was nice in March 2011. Locomotiveman
