Accomodation in Ha'apai and Vava'u

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Tonga

Greetings from Tonga!

I'm travelling to Ha'apai and Vava'u and I'm having some difficulty choosing where to stay on both islands.

From reading previous messges, I have gathered:

In Ha'apai: Evaloni's or Billy's Place

In Vava'u: Port Wine Guest House or Adventure Backpackers

Are there any more recommondations other than those? I'm looking for (hopefully) no more than$30 or 40 and night and I have to take in consideration that I'm a lone female traveller.

Any advice would be awesome, thanks so much!!

Hi ,

You are on the right track .They are very affordable and good accomodations.Billy's Place for HPA and Port Wine for VAV.

Have you booked air tickets ? - I recommend Teta Tours Ltd because they are the Majority Shareholder for Airlines Tonga and they the Largest and Most experienced Travel Agent in Tonga .Email Address is tetatour@kalianet.to & website is - www.tetatourstonga.to

Pretty safe with Port wine for Vava'u. Have a think about how far out of the small population centre you want to be on Lifuka .

Billy's place is on the windward side of the island and not an easy walk to town. You might find it a bit isolated at night unless you are quite happy with your own company. You can hire bikes there but would be pretty black at night. Fifita's guest house with Mariners cafe underneath you would meet a few people and have somewhere decent to eat. Accomodation there basic but comfortable in your price range.

Get down to Uoleva and Uiha if you can. Have a great trip.

Tony

Port Wine is a bit smaller than Adventure Backpackers. It's probably easier to meet locals via Port Wine, but easier to meet more travelers at Adv. Bkpkrs.

Hi, I stayed in Adventure Backpackers one night in Dec 06 and then decided to go to the Mala Island and stayed there at the resort - it's the only place on the island anyway and I was not sorry because it was absolutely beautiful. Staff was very nice, accommodation was great and food was excellent. They also provided free ride to the island across so that we went hiking and came to pick us up after.
Enjoy!

Isn't Mala Island quite a bit more than her budget of $30-$40/night???

Jeez, they raised prices, I paid TP$50.00 for a double room for Xmas last year. Just checked the website now!!

I remember the owner was talking about renovating so that must be the reason behind it. Anyway, in case you are wondering, it's worth it...
