Anyone stayed at Blue Lagoon Resort in Vava'u recentlyCountry forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Tonga
I have just discovered Blue Lagoon Resort on Foi'ata Island in the Vava's of Tonga. It looks fantastic although a bit of a journey and I just wanted to see if the journey is worth it. We are two families with young children aged 2, 3 & 4. We are up for a bit of adventure, if we get rewarded with a fantastic destination. Our departure time is open at present, sometime this year, and we would be looking at staying about a week. Will we get bored? Is the snorkelling accessible? Are the mozzie's bad? Will there be charges around every corner for extras? Will the boat be tiny an unsuitable for our kids? A few years ago, we all stayed at Octopus Resort in Fiji which was perfect. If any of you have been there, you will understand the pressure I need to live up to finding something equally great in Tonga! I trust you can help me out!

Fantastic destination? Yes. Is the lagoon really blue? Yes, yes, YES if the sun is out. The bungalows are so uniquely decorated, I took photos (I was on a yacht at anchor there). Food is reputed to be great. Much to do? No. Friends who took older children than yours went for the fishing. Small beach area to wander, ask if they have water craft to use - kayaking would be lovely. There is great snorkelling, check if you need your own masks etc, your children are probably too young to snorkel or go on fishing trips (which would for sure be an extra charge). You might be able to visit the dedicated fishing lodge called Ika Lahi at nearby Hunga Lagoon but again there is only a small beach area and little to do but a short walk up to the cliff top to spot whales, I'm sure they'd do an afternoon tea if you called them. Look at flight connections into Nuku'alofa and on to Neiafu - might mean an overnight stay, ditto return trip; you might be wise to get back a day early in case of flight delays. Boat trip out to Blue Lagoon ought to be done in daylight hours. | 2
Blue Lagoon is fantastic. Beautiful scenery, good snorkelling, great food and plenty of it. Good luck P.S The boat is small but the waters leading to Blue Lagoon a sheltered and fairly calm. Our children were 2 yrs old and 6 months | 3
