ATMs in Tonga

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Tonga

Can anyone confirm there are ATMs in Nukualofa? Anywhere else on Tongatapu?

hi - yes there are a few ATMs in Nukualofa, there's also one at the airport. I'm almost 100% certain you won't find one anywhere else on Tongatapu.

There are also a couple on Vavau, if anyone is planning to head up there.

2

yep there are ATMS in nuku'alofa. There is an ANZ one and a Westpak one at the very least. There is also a Westpak one in vava'u. And one in Nuku'alofa airport - if its working... it seems to get a bit of a workout that one :)

I don't think there was one on 'Eua and i have heard there isn't one on Ha'pai.

Hi Errol,

There are actually 7 ANZ, 6 Wespac ATM machines in Tongatapu, 1 Wespac ATM in Vava'u, Ha'apai and Eua and only 1 ANZ ATM at Vava'u. cheers

Hey Errol, didn't realize it was you! How is everything doing at the new LP?

(I sold Shangri-La last year, I'm back in the US for a while)

Hey Raro!! How are you? Back in the States? Oh my god! You must be missing the awesome Muri Lagoon swimming at least. I haven't been back there for a thousand years, tho might go back next year.

The new LP is great thanks - very similar to the old LP - except now we all salute a painting of the Queen in the morning and the miniature Tony Wheeler busts on our desks (they're the ones whose eyes flash when an author is calling in) have been replaced by miniature Tardis's.

PS: thanks everyone for the advice about ATMs. My sister in law and family thank you too.

Good to hear from you. Glad you like the new LP. Maybe you can get them to simplify this TT, it is pretty bad.

Anyway, I do miss the lagoon at times, but not the techno hip hop blasting away at weird times, etc.

Are you heading to the US in the near future?

What is best cash to bringA$ US $ or Euro?

8

T$ ...?
why do you need to bring cash?
just use the ATMs when you arrive, if the one in the airport is broken, you now know where every other one in the country is....
its proberbly easier to find one of the ATMS than to exchange euros for T$...
but if you have to bring foreign cash, make it au$

9

I'd still bring some pa'anga in cash, in case you are not staying close to an ATM and the one in the airport runs out of $ or otherwise isn't working.

10

just bring some cash. there is a western union which gives good rates.

As a non-tourist, I used a certain club to change my cash.

HI,

You'll find that some of the service stations have ATMs specifically ANZ as well so you'll have no probs there. Some of the larger villages have a Western Union outlet which you can usually spot when driving along the major roads. There was a Westpac at Vaiola Hospital (Tongatapu) which was convenient when I was there last.

Try not to carry wads of cash and if you do have cash make sure you have small change (2, 5 & 10) to amke it easy when you make purchases.

Hope this helps.

Cheers,

Eni
