Atolls in Tonga and Ferry ReservationsCountry forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Tonga
First, I've always wanted to see an atoll. Are there any in Tonga? I saw one website that claimed there were some in the Ha'apai group, but can't find this anywhere else. Also, I'd like to book a ferry ride before I got to Tonga. Wouldn't want to arrive and have it booked out...that is, if there are bookings at all. Any suggestions here? Thanks!
If want to see atolls up front and close, choose another Pacific island other than Tonga. The Cook Islands... Many of the islands in the group are atolls... In fact, Aitutaki is an atoll island and easily accessable. | 1
Inter-island ferries in Tonga are slow and over crowded unless you have unlimited and time and patience it's best to fly. | 2
Both 1 and 2 are right. Best to book things when you get here really, as sometimes there is a reliability issue with the people who run things. same with the flights. Come to Tonga, certainly and see many wonderful things, but be prepared to think on your feet when it comes to schedules and stuff. Consider Kiribati (pronounced ki-ri-bus) for an Atoll.
