| pigeons12:40 UTC19 Feb 2007 | Hi All Am looking for a reliable person(s) to help us get a small carton of books to a school in Ha'apai, Tonga. Mail and other forms of transport a bit unreliable so would like person to person. The school is a local Free Weslyan school where I have taught. Visited in 2006 and decided to help out a little. Be assured of a good welcome. Great way to feel part of the community instead of just looking from outside. Book package weighs les than 10kg. Happy to pay excess baggage charges. Pickup in Noryh Island New Zealand.

If you could get a message put up at the Opua Yacht Club, including details of which island in the Ha'apai, the people and the welcome they'd receive, you might get help and they'd be able to take more than 10 kg too. I'd offer to take it but we're heading for Fiji.......

| suzyk04:25 UTC21 Feb 2007 | Hi
I'm reliable :) and I'm going to Tonga on 5th March (just booked!!). It's rather a spontaneous decision as I'm in need of a break & found some REALLY cheap airfares on the net & booked...now I need some advice on where to go/stay etc!!! I'll only be there a week...how far from the airport is the school you want to deliver the books to? I live in Gisborne so will you be able to get the books to me here? Or I'm flying out of Auckland if that makes things easier?
I would REALLY appreciate a bit of a heads up on nice (affordable) places to say - I'm into swimming & snorkeling, tramping etc...
Thanks Suzy

| amaile04:58 UTC21 Feb 2007 | Hi,
just for your info, there is only one domestic airline in Tonga at the moment, and the following is a copy of their baggage notice:
----------- Baggage allowance
Because of the size and subsequently limitations on the amount of luggage, which is able to be uplifted, baggage allowance is limited to 44 lbs (10kg) within Tonga. However, for group bookings additional free baggage allowance may be requested. In any case excess luggage cost is by no means exorbitant, and in most cases is under TOP$7.00 per kilo.
-----------
If you can contact the school principal, pigeons, he/she may have some idea to receive your donation via Wesleyan Tongans travelling between NZ/Ha'apai. I think there is a Tongan Wesleyan church in Mangere.
