We will be in Tonga in 4 weeks time for a 2 week holiday. Starting in Tongatapu then off to Vavau, before returning to Tongatapu. We are hearing mixed reports regarding the status of airline Peau Vavau. We have been told that they are (were) flying again, but have "broken down". I have been on the telephone to their office in TBU and they state they are flying and "will not let their customers down"..if they don't fly they put the pax on the other airline..?Air Fiji. Can anyone confirm this..as its getting close to start having a meltdown. Mick M

OP--- I'd suggest you take up his offer. When I was in Tonga a couple of yrs ago the flight situation was as up in the air (no pun intended!) as it is now. So I stopped in the office in Neiafu a few days before my return flight and spoke to the manager, and called him the day before I was returning to TBU to re-confirm. When I turned up at the airport the next day, the flight was overbooked by four people. But that rep. saw me in line and whisked me right onto the flight. So, personal contact can come in handy in a shifting travel situation

I can tell about our experience. I booked the flight to Ha'apai via Internet, as soon I've seen Peau Vava'u had started to perform flights. I payed 2 months before we came to Tonga. All was regularly done, but Peau Vava'u haven't got the licence though they hoped they will. So we payed a fictional flight and we had to go to Teta tours at first day coming to Nuku'Alofa to pay the same thing again. It was an upleasant lady selling tickets at Teta. We paid Ha'apai and Eua tickets. All was done ok and we cought both flights. If the flight was postponed, they informed my host at Nerima and we were most satisfied. We only had a bitter taste, paying same tickets twice.

Fortunately - after we returned home, the money was returned to our account within a week from Peau Vava'u, for what we're most grateful! I feel sorry about their difficulties and wish them luck in the future.

Hey there

We booked flights on Air Fiji (tongan airlines) through Ruby at Pacific Travel Marketing. Everything with our airfares to Ha'apai went smoothly. The outward flight was slightly delayed but no big deal. The return flight went on time. I was expecting much worse given everything I have read but I was presently surprised.

I was told not to book on Peau Vava'u so we didnt and everything worked out well.
