Hi, My husband and I are planning to go to some island in the Pacific at the end of November for 12 days. I have come across a good offer to go to Fafá Resort Island and I was wondering wether somebody have been there recently and can comment on that. It will be only for five days, but this is the offer. We might add another 5 days in Vava'u. Any recommendations there? We are not looking for backpacker-type accommodation; at least we wold like an ensuite! Thanks for any comment, Pepita
I only went to Fafa for a day trip, but it was lovely. Pretty beaches and good food. The snorkelling was ok, the accommodation looked lovely, everything efficient and clean and well-kept. It is very small though- unless you are happy doing nothing, there's not too much to do. I believe boat trips and fishing can be organised. Vava'u was wonderful, very beautiful with lots of islands to hop around. I was backpacking but met people who seemed very happy at the Blue Lagoon resort- the beaches and reefs looked good from the dive boat, though that is as close as I got! Do allow a day between flying back to Tongatapu and leaving the country, as internal flights are often changed or delayed... | 1
Fafa is very nice, but expensive, and small. You have to get the twice daily boat back to Nuku'alofa to do anything. If all you want to do is relax and walk around or snorkel and swim or catch sight of an occasional whale, then Fafa is OK, but boredom will set in in two days. Vav'au is great and worth a week at least. Here is where one watches the whales. tongatapu itself, the main island is good too. plenty of restaurants, attractions, a golf course etc. Stay at the Nerima lodge on Tongatapu and get good advice from the owner. | 2
