Great Time in Tongatapu!

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Tonga

We had a great time in Tonga from the moment we arrived! Met the Prime Minister Dr. Fred Sevelion the plane and he invited us out for dinner, we went to Kaati Ni(?) with some other people who were great company. His secretary Una was very helpful as well.
We stayed at Toni's -cheap, clean, friendly people. Enjoyed his Island Tour but found his humour a bit off colour (then again I'm from enzed and the english say we don't get irony).
The only fault I could find with Toni's is that it is in the 'burbs so at night there were noisy roosters and dogs, church bells, and the constant sound of women beating mulberry bark into tapa cloth.
Friends cafe had everything we needed - good food, paintings, telephone. internet, organising a rental car etc.

Ha'atafu beach reserve was spot on for us a bit of low key snorkeling that my non swimming 9 year old son could enjoy.
We took a wrong turn on the way to Keleti beach and ended up at a little secluded local beach which was choice - we shared the beach with a couple of local tongan families.

Wonderful friendly people, and not much to do but lie on the beach and play in the sea but that is why we went there.

Even the local people rave about Vavau, so maybe another time I'll try and get there!
