Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Tonga

I have just decided to go to Tonga during the Aussie sch hols at the beg of Oct as Virgin Blue has some great deals...
was wondering if anyone has any feed back on the following 2 places to stay????
Fafa Island resort
Sandy beach resort
we will only have a week and want to go somewhere we can scuba dive and also chill out on the beach
Thanks for your help

Both of them are run by Germans, and well maintained, but quite expensive. Dive operation might be a bit better in Ha'apai where Sandy Beach Resort is. However, getting there and coming back in time for international connection may be an issue, because of the messy situation of domestic flight operation.

Fafa is fantastic, and a great way to relax, and the people who run it are lovely, but jeez, make it a day trip. It is very expensive. Stay somewhere handy and then just catch ferries to the other places.

I'd stay on Tongatapu somewhere.

If Pangiamotu islet (budget accommodation) is open, you might check that out. It's maybe a mile off the main harbour on TBU.

Rachey - you're absolutely right about location, Sandy beach resort. I'll try to send you URL address if I manage. I've never done it before. Plenty of rest on Foa island, nice scuba and chill out. Absolutely fantastic!

I've some great photos of the resort, but I pledge anyone here to teach me how can I put them here. It's 45 of them, showing Foa island on Ha'apai islands, at Sandy beach and Matafonua lodge. I'm ashamed not being able to do it, but obviously I'm an ignorant dinosaur, though willing to learn. Those photos I put on webshots.com as a private album, but would like to expose it on that subject here.

Many thanks in advance!

Euglena---I'm also not too conversant with internet photo albums, but I do get a lot of website links from friends/relatives. Some also give me a password, etc. to use, most don't need one. "Picasa" is one I've gotten a lot of lately, but I don;t know anything about it.

But I think there is a way to post at least a few of them right here on the TT, under your profile. I've seen photos on other people's profiles---what you get when you click on your name in blue. So, that's maybe one easy way to put a few favorite photos on, and maybe change them later.

Of course, assuming they are on your computer, you can attach them to an e-mail to anyone who contacts you. Just list your e-mail address in your profile. [don't list it on a response here, or you'll get about 10,000 extra spams the next day!]

Picas is a google product that helps search and sort your photos on your own computer.

For image storage on the web, and easy photo sharing, I use and reccomend Photobucket. There are others.

an example: Where I lived in China, Lunch on Fafa,The aircraft I am building, etc.

Raro, here is the code you use: img src (I am having difficulty posting the actual code.)

you type the < then img then src then = then > then the url the < then the / the img then >

7

gawd

< img src = url >

I'll get it right yet.

8

yep, that's it, just leave the spaces out.

Thanks Raro and Harry. I think with URL is much more complicated. So I did what Raro suggested. I put where the BIO is , at my profile, the steps, which lead anyone to check my photos on webshots. It's, I guess, the easiest. At least is was for me!:))

It is a bit not practical approach to put photos on LP. I suggest the moderator to consider the fact that this forum could be a bit more interesting if we could easily support what we're talking about and show to others how does it look like at places they want to go and some of us were. Just an idea, ha?

Thanks guys.

Euglena---if you send a private message to Roman B, he is usually very helpful with these types of things. There may be an easy way to add photos to your profile, not sure tho.

Thanks Harry, but all the URL and = and > and < , well it leaves me all $%^&$#@#$ 'ed up!! Maybe I'll get the hang of this internet stuff before the next millenium!

I use this site a LOT!

Harry - thanks. It's the page, every child would get some help from it. I agree with Raro - I sincerely hope I'll get more better Internet educated since the next millenium. Cause Harry - it doesn't help me so far, but I will sink into the instructions soon.

Thanks a lot.

Its no just for children. I am an Information Scientist that knows how to program in a few languages including HTML (I write all my HTML in Notepad, btw, those other programs load up your code with too much crap.), and I use Lissa's as an excellent reference and reminder source.

Harry - I didn't mean for children. I thought "as simple as for the children", which means easy for anyone, an effort for myself. I need to point out I haven't sink into it properly, but I promise to improve one of those days. It was a good tip, Harry. I will report of my improvement, when happens.

OP - Hi, if you are travelling in school hols then I expect you have children with you - Hatafu beach resort on tongatapu is a great place for families. Our children had a ball there and we really enjoyed it too.

All the best -

Hey there

We just stayed at Matafonua Lodge on Foa Island (Ha'apai Group). It was great and substantially cheaper than Sandy Beach Resort (just down the road). The food was good and lots of guests from Sandy Beach Resort seemed to come down to Matafonua for dinner since it was much cheaper. It appeared to be child friendly (there was one family there when we stayed). The beach is absolutely amazing and was a lot nicer than any beaches on the mainland (Tongatapu).

The dive shop is just down the road and I hired a snorkel set for a few days. You can go diving and whale watching as well. There were also kayaks to hire.
