Honeymoon at Vava'u

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Tonga

Hi there,

Thinking about haing our honeymoon at Vava'u in August and was hoping for some recommendations on accommodation.

Also, i've been checking out the swimming with the whales operators and don't really want to pre-buy over the intenet if I can help it (recently had some fraudulent activity on my visa card!) Does anyone know if it will be easy to book the whale swimming once we get there? I would really hate to miss out because I didn't pre-book.

Thanks very much,
Karen

There are couple of good places in Neiafu. depending on what you are looking for, Nerima Lodge is an excellent place by the old harbour. It's a rented apartment with the owners living on the floor above. If you are looking for a hotel, there is only one place worth staying: the Paradise. And that's primarily because of the location. In general there's not much difference in the quality of all the places there - at the fancy places the cockroaches are just more expensive. As for the whalewatching, I would definetely pre-book.

I believe Nerima Lodge is located in Nuku'alofa, not in Vava'u.

Adventure Backpackers will arrange your whale-swim for you.

Amaile is completely right: Nerima is in Nuku'alofa! I really meant Vava'u Explorer Apartments. So sorry!

I think you can book the tours after arrival. Tourism is down a bit, with the airfares going up, so things won't be too crowded, at least not like in past years. Several places in Neiafu offer tours.

I liked the Paradise. Ask for a room in the new wing, down around # 145 or so. Best views, newest beds, new A/C, etc.
