Mariner's and Swallow's caves in Vava'uCountry forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Tonga
Do you have any snorkeling experiences in these caves recently? I'm gonna find out about boat trips and prices when I get a chance but if you have anything to say or advice, I'd like to listen.
Hi, I went to Vava'u, Tonga, in 2006. I'm going back again for a month in September to take a tour to swim with the Humpback Whales. If Mariner's cave is the one I'm thinking of, then you need to freedive underwater to get into it? But I know Swallow's cave quite well( i think). It has drawings on the walls, done by the Tongan people. When I visit Vava'u, I go with Beluga Dive Centre on day trips to SCUBA dive and swim with the whales. I thoroughly recommend learning to SCUBA dive if you haven't already. The coral reef diving in Tonga, particularly Vava'u, is magnificent. When Beluga took us out with the whales, usually they would stop at either of these caves, or a remote island with good snorkelling to explore the waters around these places. I also suggest going August- September - October to Swim with the Whales. It's amazing. :-) | 1
