Nightclubs in the Ha'apai?

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Tonga

So the Ha'apai islands were on my short list of get away from it all places.

I was on the Peau Vava'u website when I read this:

"But don't be fooled by the slow, tranquil pace of these beautiful islands, you can dance away the night in a nightclub."

Say it isn't so.

Really? The only place I found I could even get a beer was the Mariner Cafe... Hardly a nightclub.

Things must have changed in the Ha'apai islands!

1

My only DICSO-like experience in Ha'apai was a church based youth dance with NO alcohol.

2

Peace Corps vols. that had worked in Ha'apai told me there is no nightlife to speak of, except as indicated above. Once in a while they organized a party, and that was remembered by all the locals as the best nightlife in months.

There's no nightclub in Ha'apai. Maybe you could bring your own boombox, and dance all night out in the bush or on the beach, but there's nothing remotely like a
disco here. Peau Vava'u must be talking about Nuku'alofa or Neiafu.

There was one a door or two up from the dateline. I got sick of sending my security bloke up there to tell them to pack it in.

They're still at it until all hours-then they start a garbage fire around 11:00 hrs every morning-I couldn't open my window because of the bastids.

Nice people to talk to but quite clueless in terms of neighbourliness.

Same happened at a place about a km down from the Dateline, owned by an Italian lady, Harbour-something. Disco next door until 4am!
