Renting Snorkling gear in Tonga

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Tonga

I am leaving for Tonga in two weeks and I need to know whether it is necessary to bring my own mask and snorkel or if it is possible to rent these in Tonga. I will be staying mostly in Vava'u (at a guesthouse), although I will be in Nuku'alofa the first three days.

Thank you very much for any advice you can give me.

Linda

Take your own gear-always-no matter where you go.

Be sure to triple check all flights-all flights in Tonga should be considered tentative until the place actually takes off-even then.....

I didn't see any rental places for gear in Vavau.

And as #1 said, check all flights, I'd do it both the day before, and at 8am the morning it is supposed to go. Some actually will leave earlier than originally scheduled!

If you're going out on an organised boat trip there will probably be some on the boat (whale watching & dive company) but otherwise always better to take your own.

yep, take your own for sure! i remember the 1st time i was in tonga about 2003 i went to pangamouto and there was supposed to be snokles for hire there, but all they had was 1 mask and no snorkles!
