RIP Amaile.Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Tonga
I'm not sure if I should write this, or even if I am the the one to write it. Maybe you already know. Last week, in Nuku'alofa, we lost one of us to cancer. Naoko Afeaki, known here as Amaile is gone, and I will miss her so much. This is the notice on Her facebook page: "Dear Friends and Family, Naoko passed away on Wednesday 5pm 9th June at Mermia Lodge, {sic} I will truly miss you Naoko. Tasi was her late husband who succumbed to cancer a decade or so ago. As a lot of you know, and for those who don't Naoko (Amaile) owned and operated the Nerima lodge in Nuku'alofa. A small but very well thought of guest house. She treated her staff as though they were her children, and I can only imagine their grief. Facebook link RIP Amaile.
Thanks for posting Harry. It's so sad. I didn't know anything about her except that she wasn't Tongan and she was so helpful. I'm surprised to hear that she owned a guest house. I'm sure I read practically all her posts and she never mentioned it. She always had very helpful and informative posts. I recall she really went out of her way to help travelers, looking up information for them and helping them navigate through the challenging pre-Chatham's Tongan air travel situation. She seemed like she was a lovely and classy lady. Rest in peace. | 1
I'm surprised to hear that she owned a guest house Which is why I kept reccomending the Nerima Lodge, despite the fact that I was the Ops Man at the Dateline. She simply refused to promote her place on LP because of the TT rules. It's a good place. Lower end, but comfortable and damn friendly. | 2
Sad news indeed. Rest in Peace Amaile. | 3

How tragic... a great contributor to this branch and will be missed... | 5
Hmm... I think she told me once she had relatives in the royal family? May she rest in piece. | 6
she may have had. Tasi was a Tongan. | 7
This is indeed sad news. My condolences. | 8
I'm in shock though she sent me a farewell mail about 3 months before she died...I cried for days.. I had to say goodbye to her while she was still alive and it was the most horrible thing for both of us.. She was so helpful and we had very lively correspondance before I visited her with my husband in Tonga. She was indeed a classy lady and R.I.P. dear friend... I saw the note of her relative on FB and my heart stopped for awhile.. Naoko - you will be missed a lot... | 9
