Seeds

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Tonga

G'day,

seeds and seedlings into Tonga.

Apparently live plants are verbotten, so that leaves seeds.

can someone chase up customs for me and find out what seeds I can bring in?

I'm thinking Mulberries.

Or, are Mulberries readily available inn Tonga? watermelon? Orange? Chili?

Tah.

Harry, why on earth would you want to take mulberries into Tonga? They would become a weed in no time. The others should all be available locally.

Thanks Og

weeds? Mulberries are a tree.

I like Mulberry pies, and I intend to get some yeast off of Des Carter at the brewery and see if I can make some Mulberry wine.

The Tongans will love it, and therefore I will be filthy stinking rich. (I have discovered that in this regard, FSR that is, 2 out of 3 don't cut it.)

Harry, My old house had 3 mulberry trees, all sown by birds. The birds eat the mulberries, then poop.Things grow much quicker in the tropics, and these things are considered a menace even here in Oz. The Tongans will not love you.

Your old house in Australia or your old house in Tonga? Your bio says SI. (I just got a mate a job in the SI, can't get one for meself..., grumble...)

I am after info about Mulberries in Tonga,

so If i read you right, Mulberries are already growing in Tonga?
If so, saves a lot of fool-arsing around.

Don't know why you think they are a menace.

I love Mulberries.

I am very intrested in this subject too; Whether you can bring seeds with you, or do you have to get them sent later on in the mail - and is even that possible?

I am a gardener, and my girl is a vegetarian, so i'd like to grow some vegetables / herbs for her.

Does anybody know anything on this subject?

Just put the seeds in your pocket and don't worry.

If you try to use 'official channels' you'll end up mired in bureaucratic quicksand.

You'll soon learn what works and what doesn't.

At the risk of being rubbished again, I would like to remind you that something that might work great in your home country might become an environmental disaster on a small island.
please be responsible, and check frist before breaking every quarantine law in the book.
