Staying in Vava'u in August

I'm heading out to Tonga in August this year. I'm thinking of taking a flight from Hong kong as I have heard you can get some good deals from there.
Once in Tonga how easy is it to get to Vava'u and how much would a backpackers budget for accommodation and simple meals and a couple of beers be? Also how much is the whalewatching for a day?

I think I will be somewhere in Asia in July. On the lonely planet website it says that there are Bargains to be had going to Tonga from Hong Kong. I dont really want to go to OZ or NZ as I hasve been there before and though I have travelled in SEA extensivley there is always somewhere new to visit but I can use HK as a base.

If that was true there would be all kinds of visitors from Asia in Tonga-but there aren't.

International flights into Fua'amotu are Fiji, Samoa, Sydney, and New Zealand. You'll be transitting one of those.

Well I have given you the info! I will be diving in Asia but using Hong Kong ( Via Air Asia) as my gateway to Tonga. Hong Kong or Bangkok are the biggest hubs in Asia so Naturally I use one of the as the gateway.
