Surfing

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Tonga

I hear a lot if antihype for surfing Tonga. Has anyone been and surfed there, seen waves? I am an off the radar surfer. I do not require hawaiian north shore perfection to call it surfing, I am just trying to find out if there is some decent fun maybe challenging surfing to be explored in Tongan islands...
Being just south of Samoa how can they not get waves, I'm from Hawaii and Samoa is one the heaviest and gnarliest places I've surfed, so if u know what I seek please "do tell"
Mahalo!!!

Ps- if u surf and are interested in a KAUAi surf trip or wish to spend a couple or few months scoring awesome waves I may be able to accommodate the right person, contact me and we can discuss.

We stayed at Heilala Holiday Lodge and there was reasonable surfing on the reef there.

Tonga is no better than Samoa.. the only difference is that Samoa has more to do than just surfing. Also, medical services in Tonga sucks.
