Hi Does anyone have a current e-mail address for the Tonga customs department? LeeD@kalianet.to and Finau_t@whatever don't work. I think Lloyd Powell is the new head honcho? Thanks Edited by: Harry_Mudd
Harry, Searching for kalianet address takes you to the Tongan Communications Corp They might be able to help with an updated email address - in any case, there is a Telephone Directory Search that might be useful (or not!) Tonga Chamber of Commerce is also a good reference point for any business dealings in the Kingdom: They even have a link to Revenue and Customs: http://www.revenue.gov.to/Article.aspx?ID=448 (This site has further links to many other Government Departments) Hope you can find the info you want, because with the both the Olympics in Beijing and the Pacific Forum up with Crossie in Niue, there may not be many people at home to help you! Cheers, Rob | 1
Thanks bendigo. I have been studying the TCC site thoroughly as they are the people the job I have applied for is with. (I find out next Wednesday) The chamber of Commerce didn't respond to a previous email, but I will try them again. the revenue website only had outdated email contacts, but I will have another look. Thanks muchly for the help | 2
Lloyd Powell???!!! God help Tonga!!! All tourists will be banned from arriving, as there will no longer be any more room for his ego and any tourists. | 3
Just sent an email off to him, I will await the reply with baited breath. ;-) Oh, over on the Planet Tonga forum, they are saying I can bring them in. we'll see. I may just take some cuttings with me, declare them, and then see what happens | 4
Your best bet might be to call the Custom's One Stop shop first and have a chat - you will also be able to get the contact email for someone who might be able to help you out with regards to your specific requirements. | 5
Raro, here is the reply I got from Powell's email (it is undersigned Peter Nash):... Dear Mr. {my real name}, There are no restrictions on your mulberry cuttings as far as customs is+ +concerned, and if you bring them in as a passenger they should be+ +declared. Quarantine however will have to inspect the cuttings and make+ +their particular ruling. I suggest you contact Quarantine to find out if they+ +have any restrictions or criteria whixch must be met prior to the cuttings+ +introduction. Regards Peter Nash I have since found an email on this site: Tonganz.ORG and hopefully they will help out. Onoiki, thanks. A call from Australia would cost a little too much at the moment, so I will try email. Failing that, I will just bring in my cuttings and declare them and see what happens. The cuttings will be examined very carefully, and may not be allowed. There is a great fear of any kind of insect pest. These range from fruit fly type things to coconut beetle, coconut moths, aphids, etc. If there is a way to get some kind of report from whomever you buy them from that they have been examined, sterilized, are pest-free, etc., that might help. And of course, you would want them to be pest free, and not cause any potential damage to Tongan crops. I'd say it's 50-50. | 7
Thanks Raro. The cuttings won't cost me anything. My local nursery has two very old Mulberries (trunks bigger than me) and they are quite happy to snip a few cuttings off for me. Mulberries are damn easy to grow. Just stick the cuttings in the ground and wait. (I'm thinking of a May Bush, too). I will heed your post though, and ask them about making them like they are commercially packaged. | 8
