Tonga over New Year

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Tonga

We are having 6 nights in Tonga over new year spending it all on the main island.

Three questions;
Is there sea kayaking opportunities from that island?
For my partner (keeping in mind how religious Tongans are) bikini on beach is okay?
We are mainly going just to chill out, but what else do you suggest we do on the island?

Thanks

Mike

(Yes this is a re post I think I put this in wrong forum originally)

Is there sea kayaking opportunities from that island?

Yes, but it would be rather bland compared to Vavau.

For my partner (keeping in mind how religious Tongans are) bikini on beach is okay?

Yes, but ONLY on the beaches!

We are mainly going just to chill out, but what else do you suggest we do on the island?

Sightseeing!
Cycling is a good way to do it and could fill 2 days or so, or else just book a 1 day round-island tour. You could also catch an evening dinner cum cultural show.

Thank you for the reply.

Is Vavau a day trip away or is it further?

2

Definitely "further"!

Vava'u is further further away....Daytrip would be to 'Eua....I suggest you go there instead...even an overnight would be fine. I recommend the Hideaway including any one of their day tours...'Eua looks much more interesting than Tongatapu anyway! I personally know the owners...and flying to Eua is not expensive at all....going by ferry...if you're brave enough, is much more cheaper even. Google up "Chathams Pacific" for airfares and accommodation options within Tonga...Good luck and enjoy it. Tonga is my second home so I love blabbing on about it haha!

So what is the weather likely to be doing when we are there?

Right now the islands (here in the lovely south pacific) are all on hurrican warning....but that could mean the hurrican could come tonight or in 6weeks time (get my drift? yeah its all unpredictable!!)....otherwise, its full swing of summer so its hot!!!!
