Vava'u Accomodation? Any recommendatsion

Hello, 4 or 5 of us thirty-somethings are headed to Vava'u for the whale swimming for 6-7 days

I've read all the posts but still dont know where to stay.

Is it worth it to stay in town (Neiafu) for the convenience of (ie Portwine). Or somewhere further away with the need to travel by moped (Tongan Beach Resort).

I know the beaches arent a main attraction except for some of the small neighboring islands.

We basically want a place where we can chill but still have access to some activity.
