Visa to Tonga --- Mission Imposible?Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Tonga
Hi to all the Posters of this side of the Thorn Tree:) I have a very difficult question to all of you, How (if possible) can I get a Tongan Visa in South America? (in Chile) Long story short , a very good mate of mine from Tonga is getting married in March and he invited me over for it, but while checking the visa requirements page of qantas airline it shows that I need a Visa in order to board the plane. My plan is to travel to Auckland, NZ, stay there for a week visiting friends and then fly over to Tonga for 10 days and return to Chile with a stop over in Auckland. I was wondering, how easy it is to obtain a tongan visa in Auckland? Would I be able to obtain it in less than a week? And by the way I hold a Chilean Passport and have traveled to NZ before without a single problem. (I can enter NZ visa free and not Tonga:( Thanks in Advance.
" how easy it is to obtain a tongan visa in Auckland? Would I be able to obtain it in less than a week?" Should be quite easy New Zealand heaves with Tongans many of them Kiwi citizens, OTOH the Tongan Govt is a pack of lard arsed slackers I doubt their embassy is any different. Have you any way of finding out in advance exactly what is involved for a Chilean citizen in terms of photographs, proof of citizenship, financial records? It would certainly help to have everything you need in hand when walking up. The Chilean Embassy in Auckland should be able to help with that. | 1
Hi, Trotamundoz My advice is to go to the visa section web-site to download the application form, fill it out, scan the form and your passport, and e-mail it (along with your confirmed itinerary), to Tonga Immigration, NOW. If you didn't get any reply in a week, please send me a private message. I will follow that up for you. Tonga does not have an Embassy in NZ. NZ passport holders, regardless of their ethnicity, do not need visa to enter Tonga, thus, the above reply is irrelevant. | 2
Most people get a 31 day visa on arrival. need an onward ticket. But I would do as Amaile suggests. I just searched this page: http://tonga.visahq.com/requirements/Chile/</strong> and came up with this: Citizens of Chile residing in Chile have to apply for a visa to Tonga in person at the+ +nearest consulate of Tonga in Chile. Please note that the application procedures and fees+ +may vary depending on where you apply. If there is no consulate of Tonga in Chile there+ +might be a consulate of Tonga in one of the neighboring countries that covers the+ +jurisdiction of Chile. Edited by: Leo_Walsh | 3
"If there is no consulate of Tonga in Chile there might be a consulate of Tonga in one of the neighboring countries that covers the jurisdiction of Chile." IOW-You are buggered. | 4
Hi Leo_Walsh, I checked the site you stated, and clicked the other nationalities to see if what the site says is true or not. It seems not. I have assisted people with different nationalities who needed to apply for visitor's visa prior to their arrival in the method I posted before; via e-mail attachment. They did not have to visit Tongan consulate in person. When the application for visitor's visa is approved, an official letter stating so is issued, as an e-mail attachment, and the person needs to print that out when they travel. Upon arriving Tonga, the person shall show the attachment and pay visa fee and the visitor's visa shall be stamped on his/her passport, at the airport.
If your Tongan friend is back in Tonga, you may want to ask her/him to assist you to get your visitor's permit by sending her/him the following attachment: your scanned passport, application form, and itinerary issued by your travel agent. Tongan government offices close for about 10 days, from 22nd Dec. to 1st Jan., so you may want to e-mail all your document after 2nd Jan. Very best | 5
OK. I'm not surprised though. | 6
