water taxi around vavau islands - best option

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Tonga

Hi,
I'm heading to Tonga in a couple of days, staying a number of spots in Vavau. To end the trip we are spending a couple of days a blue lagoon resort. They've offered to pick us up but it seems very expensive. Isa there a better(cheaper way of getting out to the island?

Thanks

If the boat to Hunga still operates, you might be able to persuade the 'captain' to drop you off at the resort, if you pay a little extra. Ask around at the harbour, when you get to Neiafu.

there are not too many ways to skin a cat in tonga. You'll understand once you get there...

I was going to suggest the hunga boat too - and thats about it, other than hiring your own which will also be expensive. If you did a snorkelling / whale watching trip you may be able to get the boat to drop you there afterwards.

Thanks everyone for your replies. i'll take it on board.

Yes, head down to the harbour. You might get someone to run you around, but with petrol getting more expensive, not sure it will be worth it compared to the standard transfer.
