weather in Tonga

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Tonga

Hello all you helpful people,

I just have a quick question about what the weather is normally like at the end of august. I will be heading to Tonga on August 26th for 2 weeks (can't wait!). Just wondering what to pack - does it get cold in evenings? Also I am planning to stay at mala island resort at start of september but they only have rooms with cold water left. Do you think that will be bearable??

Thank for your help

This "Winter" has been unusually warm. It has hardly gotten below 20 degrees, even in mornings/evenings. I would suggest you to bring long sleeve jacket/jumper for evenings, though. Mind you that I live in Tongatapu, and it's even warmer in Vava'u.

Cheers,

We were in Tonga from June through to early August and Vava'u was noticably warmer than Tongatapu when were there (stayed at Mala island too). Cold water showers may still be a bit brisk - but they don't have a big water supply on Mala island - so a short shower is best anyway. Also try and bring some drinking water with you to Mala island - when we were there you couldn't drink the tap water and and they charged alot for bottled water.

Thanks both of you. That's very helpful. I'm getting excited now....

Hey! I'll probably be at Mala Resort the same time you will! Trying to get a room or dorm right now...even cold water is okay by me. Hopefully will be there Sept. 4. Wouldn't that be funny to run into someone from a LP post?
