Where to stay for Sat & Sun on Tongapatu?

I'm headed to Ha'aipi and arrive too late on Tongapatu to get there on Saturday. No trans on Sunday so I need to find a place where I can enjoy the weekend and maybe find some clear water to do some snorkeling. Any suggestions?

I stayed at Vakaloa and found it quite pleasant. The rooms are massive and the food and hosts lovely.
It's quite remote however and you will have to pay for transportation to get there. With any luck, the same fellow might be able to take you on and island tour on Sunday if you are interested?

There's also Pangaimotu island which has a small resort, only a 1 mile boat trip from Nuku'alofa.

Yes it's important to consider that airport transfers can cost as much as a room.

I like this place but it's probably best for an overnighter- the owners are lovely people.
