which is better tonga or fiji?

I am wanting a holiday over dec/jan and am tossing up between tonga and fiji - which is better and which is cheaper or more expensive? Also do I need to book accommodation/activities in advance?

Fiji is up market and has plenty of services and infrastructure, Tonga is way more laid back.

Hi I have been to Fiji and I am going to tonga in a few weeks. As I am booking Tonga I am finding it quite expensive especially the flights between the islands which is the only comfortable way to travel. Fiji on the otherhand is relatively cheap if you go to the outer Yasawa islands which are very beautiful. If going to Fiji I reccomend getting a Bula pass and jumping on the yasawa flyer (boat) - a comfortable and affordable way to travel!

Fiji hands down.

My vote is for Fiji as well. Both are best off of the main island. There are cheaper Fiji options available and as above to get to the nice Tongan places you need an expensive flight. Of course my preference is Savaii in Samoa.

It's not as busy as fiji and there are no coups in Tonga.

Very laid back and quiet.
