2 weeks of diving, adventure, food, culture and beaches

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea

Hi there,
I'm trying to decide on a destination for a quick 2 week getaway with my girlfriend. Out biggest priorities are diving (I am a Rescue Diver) and have just come back from a Caribbean diving trip between Colombia and Mexico so unfortunately I've been very spoiled lately. She wants to do her OW certificate.

We're also looking for some natural sightseeing, not overly big on hiking but active volcanoes, jungles, wildlife are definitely our thing.

We like a lot of culture, although infinity pools and swim up bars are nice, we aren't interested in sitting in a resort all day long, we want to be enlightened a little bit.

Beaches, the whiter the sand and bluer the water the better :)

And we want something within throwing distance from home (Australia) so somewhere in the SP would be great, Vanuatu, Fiji, Solomons, PNG? Timor even? (I know it's not SP).

Any help would be great. Oh and budget, under AU$100/night on accom.

Cheers,

Rob

Solomon Islands (see Visit Solomons|http://www.visitsolomons.com.sb/] (especially the Western province for diving) sounds like it would meet all your requirements. As a cultural experience, a side trip to malaita might also interest you. And only 3 hours flight from Brisbane.
