21st birthday suggestions?

Hi all,

I have my 21st Birthday coming up next January and was wondering what people would recommend for short holiday ideas either in the South Pacific or South East Asia. I currently live in Sydney so I'm after something fairly close because it would only be for a short amount of time.

Any ideas?

I have not been everywhere, but I speak basic Chinese and I thought Taiwan (complete with snorkeling and mountain treks) was absolutely the cat's pajamas.

I have been to Thailand twice. The good news is that it is well developed for tourism. The bad news is that it is well developed for tourism.

I have heard that Laos, Cambodia and most of Vietnam carry only half of the above equation, and that Vietnam has great undeveloped tropical beaches. I don't know. I'll tell you when I get there, or maybe you should go first then you can tell me.

If you go to any of the above mentioned (Taiwan, Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam) it would probably do you well to look up a couple of recent newspaper articles before going, just so you know if anything is up.

Cook Islands. There is a direct Sydney-Rarotonga flight. Stay in Muri Beach.
